Refactoring the website

Contents

FF suggestion

  • Start it over with drupal (my personal choice, and with which I would know how to do the following)
  • Import all current content as pages
  • New resources:
    • User profiles - every member gets to describe herself
    • Project/node/lab pages - every member gets to describe her project/lab/space/network in a proper, wiki-like page ---> collective, self-managed project portfolio
    • Feed engine - every member can add feeds related to the bricolabs network (for instance, project weblogs, specific tags on delicious, flickr, youtube, etc.)

Special help is needed for:

  • information architecture
  • interface design

Possible architecture

  • Homepage: short description + block with aggregated feeds + online infrastructure descriptions (mailing list, irc, wiki, etc)
    • Reference
      • Homebrew
      • Paragraphs
      • Politics --- a depository of Brico-data, theory,
      • Protocols
      • Networking
      • Operating systems
      • Artisans --- Edu artisans, demystification of technology, best practices
      • Presentations / events - futuresonic, mainsdoeuvres, brasil, hosc, goodbye privacy
  • People (user profiles)
  • Projects (project pages)
  • Feed aggregator (full version)

Kruno's addition to FF suggestion

'project/lab/space/network in a proper, wiki-like page ---> collective, self-managed project portfolio' to be created as a syndicated RSS feeds instead of creating another WIKI page for each of the participant/project/...

to illustrate (this is a graph, not a design suggestion concerning colors, sizes, font type, etc. Done in inkscape - feel free to add, change):

Inkscape file to download and adjust when needed

suggestions- advocating services/archives such as: archive.org, estudiolivre.org, maybe vimeo and other similar for difference of youtube, delicious, etc; using png, using ogg, using open source font type, giving basic explanation why use VLC (etc) - lets call it 'for first-comers' (?)

Phil's suggestion

As Bricophone is a network of networks, the project page should be a network of projects with links to all of the participants/members of bricolabs to promote and show projects in the bricolabs community such as:
